The 2024 World Poker Tour Prime Gold Coast Championship attracted 1,395 entries at The Star across three starting flights, with a buy-in of $2,000 AUD ($1,300 USD). After five days of intense play, Switzerland’s Lorenz Schöllhorn emerged triumphant, claiming the title and the top prize of $257,729.

This marked Schöllhorn’s inaugural live tournament victory, surpassing his previous best finish of 31st place in a $1,100 pot-limit Omaha event at the 2023 WPT World Championship festival in Wynn Las Vegas, where he earned $2,913.

As the champion of this event, Schöllhorn earned 960 Card Player Player of the Year points, propelling him toward the top 150 in the 2024 POY standings presented by Global Poker.

More than $1.6 million in prize money was distributed among the top 175 finishers, with six-figure USD payouts for the top three. Schöllhorn dominated the final table, starting by eliminating Martin Ward in 9th place.

His next significant knockout occurred when his pocket tens held against Michael Fraser’s Q-10, securing Fraser a $95,069 payday. Travis Endersby’s tournament journey ended in 3rd place when his kings and nines were bested by Schöllhorn’s full house, earning Endersby $127,173.

Heading into heads-up play against Andres Vasquez, Schöllhorn held a commanding chip lead. In the final hand, Schöllhorn’s flush draw and overcard prevailed over Vasquez’s pocket jacks, securing Schöllhorn the victory and Vasquez a runner-up prize of $171,782, his largest tournament cash to date.
