MGM Springfield 3,400-Space Garage on Schedule to Open along Casino Resort

Construction on the 3,400-space garage at the MGM Springfield integrated resort, currently under development in the Massachusetts city of Springfield, is progressing on schedule, a spokesperson for the property told local news channel 22News.

Saverio Mancini, a spokesman for MGM Springfield, further pointed out that the parking facility will be completed by September and will be launched along the casino resort. At present, it is available to construction vehicles.

Mr. Mancini went on to say that the garage will be equipped with a top-notch camera security system and will be lit with LED lights. Construction workers are yet to instal elevators and to put decking and facing.

Under MGM Springfield’s agreement with its host municipality, some of the spaces at the garage will be reserved for municipal vehicles, Mr. Mancini explained. They will also craft a parking program based on expected traffic flow and events in downtown Springfield, where the casino resort will be located. The program is set to be announced later this year but before the September 2018 opening of the property.

MGM Springfield will be the first commercial casino resort with Las Vegas-style gambling options to open doors in Massachusetts after the state legalized casino gambling in the early 2010s. Aside from a full-fledged casino, the nearly $1-billion project will also include a six-story hotel (which was preferred over a previous plan for a 25-story glass hotel tower), multiple retail facilities, the above-mentioned seven-story garage, as well as different food and beverage and entertainment options.

The resort was previously expected to open earlier but construction work on the nearby Interstate 91 due to be completed in August delayed its launch to September.

Career Opportunities at MGM Springfield

Once fully operational, MGM Springfield will employ around 3,000 people permanently. Casino executives have promised that the greater amount of jobs created would be occupied by Springfield residents and people from the region.

Operator MGM Resorts International has already held several hiring events in the Massachusetts city, seeking staff for its business. More job fairs are to take place throughout the month. The casino resort is looking to hire dealers for the table games on the gaming floor, as well as people for the rest of the operations on property.

The casino will employ around 1,000 people, according to rough estimates. Dealers, in particular, would be trained at the specially created Massachusetts Casino Career Training Institute.

MGM Springfield is one of two commercial integrated resort projects approved in the state, with the $2.4-billion Wynn Boston Harbor being the other one. However, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission opened investigation into Wynn Resorts, the company licensed to build and operate the latter property, after sexual misconduct allegations against its former CEO and Chairman Steve Wynn had surfaced.

State gaming officials pointed out that they needed to look into the suitability of Wynn Resorts to participate in the local gaming industry. It has also emerged that the casino operator might even have its license revoked depending on the probe’s findings.
