Finland’s messigoat10 coughed up a heads-up lead against Hungary’s freddopizza in a savory battle during 2017 WCOOP Event #16-H otherwise known as the Half-Price Thursday Thrill. This festive PKO event was eventually won by messigoat10, who launched a successful counterattack to regain the lead and devour freddopizza’s leftover chips. The Finnish player banked over $201,000 in total with a first-place payout worth $123,590.76 plus PKO bounties in excess of $77,670.73.

2017 WCOOP Event #16-H $530 NL Progressive Knockout, Half Price Thursday Thrill attracted 3,410 total entries with 2,660 original runners plus 750 additional re-entries. The total prize pool of $1,722,050 whizzed by the original $1 million guarantee. Half the prize pool, or $861,025.00, went toward the PKO bounties and the other half toward the regular prize pool. Only the top 431 places paid out with $123,590.76 originally allocated to the champion.

Day 1 ended with 104 players remaining. Romania’s politm69 bagged up the most chips at the end of the first day with 5.7M. politm69 did not let up and pressed on to the final table.

With 24 remaining, two monstrous 20M-stacks emerged: politm69 and freddopizza. The closest player in third, DJG1989, held less than half. With 18 to go on the final two tables, freddppizza surged to 26M and took over the top spot. With 14 left in the hunt, MaxErosAmore rocketed to first with 33.3M. With 12 to go, politm69 regained the lead and passed the 35M-mark.

With 10 to go on the final table bubble, politm69 held a commanding lead with 44.6M. Action went hand-for-hand. DJG1989 bubbled off the final table in tenth place. DJG1989 had turned a straight but lost to messigoat10’s full house.

Sweden’s Leo ‘ISILDRooN’ Nordin won a WCOOP last year in mix-max PLO. OverTheTop43 won a SCOOP in 2013. Romania’s Adrian ‘politm69’ Ionescu final tabled the Sunday Million multiple times, but he never shipped a COOP.

SO LONELY: Powergolf eliminated in 9th place

Did you hear the joke about the time pocket sixes walked into a bar with Ace-ten? Okay, I won’t spoiled the punchline, but the talking pig steals the show. Sixes and Ace-ten never mix when trying to flip coins. The board read A♦6♠4♥K♥4♣. Powergolf checked, freddopizza shoved for 9,093,964 and Powergolf called all-in for 5,860,899.

freddopizza flopped a set of sixes, then won the pot with a rivered full house against Powergolf’s Aces up. It took a full level before someone exited at the final table before Powergolf busted in ninth place and took home $7,724.42. Powergolf earned an additional $8,801.95 in bounties. freddopizza picked up a bounty worth $4,527.20 for busting Powergolf, and freddopizza’s own bounty jump to $19,170.05.

ROXANNE: xueshe eliminated in 8th place

The dreary, yet tragic tale of Jack-ten versus pocket fours. The board read K♠T♥T♣4♣7♣. Big stack attempted to pick off a small stack. Short-stacked xueshe flopped trips with J♠T♠, but MaxErosAmore turned a full house with 4♦4♥. MaxErosAmore dragged the pot and the rich got richer. MaxErosAmore’s own bounty increased to $13,410.44, after winning $3,260.77 for picking off xueshe. Brazil’s xueshe hit the virtual rail in eighth place, which paid out $10,923.99, plus $6,269.08 in bounties. MaxErosAmore’s massive lead continued with 72.5M.

“Scandi-open-shove with Ace-Queen? No problemo, said big-stacked MaxErosAmore. The love gods blessed Ace-ten during this joust. ISILDRooN open-shoved 5,678,528 with A♠Q♦ and MaxErosAmore called with A♥T♥. The board ran out K♦6♠3♠T♣A♦. MaxErosAmore turned a pair of tens and rivered Aces up. MaxErosAmore busted ISILDRoon and earned $2,442.12, meanwhile MaxErosAmore’s own bounty jumped to $15,852.55. Sweden’s ISILDRooN was knocked out in seventh place, which paid out $15,448.76 plus $4,631.77 in bounties.

CAN’T STAND LOSING YOU: OverTheTop43 eliminated in 6th place

Big Slick versus Ochos! Big Slick prevailed. Short-stacked OverTheTop43 open-shoved for 6,134,534 with 8♣8♠ and politm69 called with A♥K♥. politm69 seized the lead with an Ace on the flop… and never looked back. Pocket eights got smashed. OverTheTop43 was dunzo in sixth place. The former COOP champ took home $21,847.73. politm69’s own bounty increased to $21,528.86, after earning OverTheTop43’s bounty of $1,396.63.

TRUTH HITS EVERYBODY: Yattago eliminated in 5th place

Five-handed didn’t last very long before Yattago made a move with A♠9♠ and bombed it all-in for 2,874,180. Unfortunately, messigoat10 woke up with Q♥Q♣ and a rumble ensued. The board finished up Q♦T♠8♥4♣4♠ and messigoat10 won the pot with a full house. messigoat10 picked up a bounty worth and their own bounty bumped to $16,068.08. Yattago from Brazil busted in fifth place, which paid out $30,897.27.

With four left in the hunt… MaxErosAmore led with 79.9M, followed by politm69’s 41.8M, messigoat10’s 25.8M, and freddopizza’s 19.8M.

PEANUTS: MaxErosAmore eliminated in 4th place

Action hit a snag when it reached four-handed. MaxErosAmore relinquished the lead as all four stacks flattened out. Then it happened… messigoat10 jumped ahead with 60M and took out the former leader. MaxErosAmore declined to second overall but battled against the big stack. The results were deadly. messigoat10 attempted to pick off MaxErosAmore’s Ace-small with Ace-eight. All the money went in on the turn. The board read A♦T♣6♦5♥. messigoat10 fired out 3M, MaxErosAmore shoved for 28,205,072 and messigoat10 called. MaxErosAmore trailed with A♣3♣ against messigoat10’s A♠8♠. The river was a blank and messigoat10 won the pot with a better ten-eight kicker. messigoat10’s own bounty increased to $23,994.35 and messigoat10 earned a bounty worth $7.926.28 for busting MaxErosAmore. Finland’s MaxErosAmore went from a monster-stack to out in fourth place, which paid out $43,695.29. MaxErosAmore banked $15,600.12 in bounties.

messigoat10 lost the lead and got in trouble. Early on, freddopizza dominated and won a 38M pot with Ace high to pull nearly even 86M to 84.5M. freddopizza’s heads-up surge continued after winning a 77M pot with K♣T♣ and a nut flush. The two got it all-in on the next hand, but freddopizza did not land the knockout blow. Instead, messigoat10 avoided an elimination and won a 94.7M pot with an Ace-high flush and A♣9♣ vs. K♣4♣.

With messigoat10 back to life, the Hungarian launched a counter attack and took a 2-1 lead. messigoat10 chipped away and chipped away to jump ahead 144M to 26M. Seventeen hands later… it would be all over.

MASOKO TANGA: freddopizza eliminated in 2nd place; messigoat10 wins Event #16-H PKO!

Going into the final hand, messigoat10 led 153.7M to 16.8M. messigoat10 limp-shoved from the small blind with A♥8♣, but woke uo with freddopizza J♦J♠. Heck of a time to wake up with Jacks in the big blind! The board ran out A♠2♦2♥T♥5♠. messigoat10 flopped an Ace and that’s all she wrote. messigoat10 won the pot with Aces up and earned a bounty worth $14,967.24 for busting freddopizza.

Hungary’s freddopizza busted in second place, which paid out $87,390.59. freddopizza also won $29,682.03 in bounties… which can buy a plethora of pizza.
