Poker pro tries to bluff Phil Ivey, ends up losing all his money

Five-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner Jason Mercier is one of the best poker players in the world, but even the best players have their bluffs called from time to time.

In this classic clip from High Stakes Poker, Mercier tries to force Phil Ivey to fold while holding nothing, only for the play to cost him his entire stack.

With two players already in the hand, Ivey calls a preflop raise with pocket nines, only for Mercier to raise to $22,400 with Ace-Four of hearts. The move forced Gus Hansen and Eli Elezra to fold, but Ivey called to make the pot worth $55k.

After a flop of 2-3-7, Mercier was on a straight draw and bet $28,700, and Ivey raised to $78,700. With a 32 percent chance of winning the pot, Mercier responded by pushing all in – and Ivey called.

Mercier needed a 5 for a straight or an Ace for a higher pair, but got no help on the turn or the river and was knocked out.
