Andrey “Kroko-dill” Zaichenko wins Event 39 for second WCOOP title

45

In 2010, Russian pro Andrey “Kroko-dill” Zaichenko took down the World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) Event #13: $215 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi/Lo, a win he dedicated to his daughter.

Six years later, he captured his second WCOOP title by winning 2016 WCOOP-39: $1,050 FL Omaha Hi/Lo Championship, a tournament that attracted 179 entries that accounted for 52 re-entries. That brought the prize pool up to $231,000, and that was distributed to the top 27 players with $44,499.92 of that going to Zaichenko, who has been playing poker professionally since 2006 and has amassed more than $2.8 million in the live realm.

After Day 1 of the tournament, the field was whittled down to the final 55 players. Leading the pack into Thursday’s Day 2 was Switzerland’s “LadyDoDo91” with 304,150, which was considerably more than Jens “Fresh_oO_D” Lakemeier, who sat second with 196,500.

Among the 28 players to leave empty handed on Day 2 were Connor “blanconegro” Drinan (55th), Stephen “stevie444” Chidwick (35th), Shaun Deeb (33rd), and Dan “djk123” Kelly (29th).

After the elimination of Eugene “MyRabbiFoo” Katchalov on the bubble in 28th place, the in-the-money bust outs came quick and included Ola” Odd_Oddsen” Amundsgard (24th – $2,761.95), Felipe “Mojave” Ramos (19th – $3,356.33), start-of-the-day chip leader “LadyDoDo91” (18th – $3,356.33), Pat Pezzin (16th – $3,356.33), Viktor “Isildur1” Blom (15th – $4,078.62), and

Kyle “kwob20” Bowker – 1,022,909
“Bluf_To_Much” – 912,329
“ALEX2PAIRS” – 760,985
Andrey “Kroko-dill” Zaichenko – 599,617
“TAPïSpayé?” – 484,074
“boahgerding” – 423,420
Shawn “buck21” Buchanan – 297,950
Jens “Fresh_oO_D” Lakemeier – 118,716

Jens “Fresh_oO_D” Lakemeier Doesn’t Last Long

Not long into the final table, with the stakes at 20,000/40,000, action folded to Kyle “kwob20” Bowker (1,057,909) in the hijack and he raised to 40,000. Lakemeier (103,716) three-bet to 60,000 from the button, both blinds folded, and Bowker called to see a 9♣T♣8♣ flop.

Bowker checked, Lakemeier bet 20,000, and Bowker check-raised to 40,000. Lakemeier moved all in for 3,726 more and Bowker called with the A♣Q♣K♠T♥ for the ace-high flush. It was good as Lakemeier held the A♥A♦K♣7♠. The 8♥ turn took away any chance at a lot, and Lakemeier hit the rail in eighth place when the 4♣ bricked on the river.

“TAPïSpayé?” Chopped Up in Seventh Place

Not long after, “Bluf_To_Much” (627,329) raised to 40,000 from early position and Shawn “buck21” Buchanan (762,950) called from the cutoff. “TAPïSpayé?” (54,074) then three-bet all in, Zaichenko (649,617) called from the small blind, Bowker (1,081,625) did the same from the big, and the other two players called to make it five-way action to the 8♠7♠4♦ flop. Two checks saw “Bluf_To_Much” bet 20,000, all three of his active opponents called, and the 3♠ appeared on the turn.

After Zaichenko checked, Bowker bet 40,000 and only “Bluf_To_Much” called to see the 7♣ river. Bowker bet 40,000, “Bluf_To_Much” called, and Bowker showed the K♠2♥3♥5♠ for a flush. “Bluf_To_Much” then rolled over the A♣2♣Q♠7♥ for the nut low, and the two chopped as “TAPïSpayé?” simply sent his hand to the muck.

A SCOOP Champ Bows Out in Sixth Place

With the stakes at 24,000/48,000, action folded to “Bluf_To_Much” (8,235) on the button and he called off his remaining chips. “boahgerding” (262,675) called an additional 12,000 from the small blind and Buchanan (1,051,216) checked his option from the big to bring about a J♥Q♠5♥ flop.

“boahgerding” check-called a bet of 24,000 and then check-called bets of 48,000 on both the 2♦ turn and 9♠ river. Buchanan tabled the A♥T♥8♥3♣ for a straight, and it scooped as both his opponents mucked. “Bluf_To_Much,” who won a 2015 SCOOP title, took his leave in sixth place for $10,665.13.

After the blinds jumped to 32,000/64,000, Bowker (2,114,736) raised to 64,000 from the button holding A♦2♥6♥Q♠ and “boahgerding” (118,675) defended his big blind with the Q♥J♥7♠2♣. When the flop fell 9♣7♥A♣, “boahgerding” checked and Bowker bet 32,000. “boahgerding” check-raised all in for 54,675 total and Bowker called.

The T♠ turn and 6♦ river resulted in two pair and the best low for Bowker, and he dispatched “boahgerding” in fifth place for $14,192.03.

“ALEX2PAIRS” Has to Settle for Fourth Place

In the same level, Buchanan (1,367,180) raised to 64,000 under the gun and “ALEX2PAIRS” (86,595) called from the big blind to see a 3♦5♠9♦ flop. “ALEX2PAIRS” bet his last 22,595 and Buchanan called.

“ALEX2PAIRS”: T♠T♥5♦8♦
Buchanan: Q♠Q♥6♦6♥

Both players held in overpair to the board, but Buchanan’s was best. “ALEX2PAIRS” had a flush draw as well, but neither the A♥ turn nor Q♣ river helped him and he had to settle for fourth place and an $18,885.24 payday.

Buchanan Busts in Third

With the stakes at 40,000/80,000, a short-stacked Buchanan (115,368) raised to 80,000 from the small blind and Zaichenko (1,035,221) three-bet to 120,000. Buchanan called off his remaining chips and the cards were turned up.

Zaichenko: T♦2♦4♣3♠
Buchanan: T♠J♠5♥3♥

The board ran out Q♦J♥5♦K♦A♦ to give Zaichenko a flush. With not low, the Russian scooped the pot and Buchanan, who began the final table as the second-shortest stack, was eliminated in third place for $25,130.49.

Zaichenko Turns the Tables to Defeat Bowker in Heads-Up Play

Heads-up play began with Bowker holding a near 3:1 chip lead over Zaichenko, but before long the chip counts flipped and the Russian put the pedal to the metal. In the final hand of the tournaments, which took place at the 40,000/80,000 stakes, Bowker (369,411) raised to 80,000 and then called when Zaichenko (4,250,589) three-bet to 120,000.

The A♥K♣A♣ flop saw Bowker call a bet of 40,000 from Zaichenko, and the 3♣ appeared on the turn. Zaichenko bet 80,000, Bowker raised to 160,000, and Zaichenko made it 240,000. Bowker called off his remaining 49,411 with the K♦K♠9♦8♣ for a full house, but it was no good as Zaichenko had turned a bigger one with his A♠3♥9♣4♦. The 6♣ river failed to change a thing, and Bowker had to settle for runner-up and a $33,441.01 consolation prize.
